Do I need my own AI API key?
Yes. You bring an API key from your preferred provider so usage costs stay transparent and capped on your side. The full provider list is on the AI Auto-Reply docs page.
How does it learn about my product?
Use the Knowledge Base - three item types in one list: URLs (auto-refreshed daily), free-text notes, and uploaded files (PDF, DOCX, TXT, MD up to 5 MB). New accounts get 3-5 starter notes auto-generated from your front page on signup.
Will the auto-reply hallucinate?
It's instructed to answer only from the provided knowledge and to say "I'm not sure, let me get a teammate" when it doesn't know - so off-topic and made-up replies are rare.
Can I limit the number of auto-replies per conversation?
Yes. Set a max-interactions cap so auto-reply hands off after N exchanges if the visitor still needs human help.
Does the chat widget work without auto-reply?
Absolutely. Smart auto-reply is opt-in - leave it off and you get a clean live-chat widget for your team to staff manually.

Yes. The widget itself is a one-line <script> tag that runs on Shopify, WordPress, Webflow, Wix, Squarespace, Ghost, Next.js, and plain HTML. For the AI brain you bring an API key from any supported provider — Google Gemini, OpenAI, or Anthropic — so you're not locked into one vendor and your usage costs stay transparent on your own bill.
Can I target the AI auto-reply by URL, country, device, or schedule?
Yes. AI auto-reply inherits FloatMessage's full targeting layer: enable it only on /pricing pages, only for visitors from specific countries (geo-IP at the edge), only on mobile, only outside business hours, or any combination. Outside the targeting window the chat widget falls back to manual mode.
Will the auto-reply respect GDPR and PII rules?
Yes. Knowledge-base content stays scoped to your account, no third-party training, and you can pair the widget with our cookie-consent banner so chat only initializes after the visitor opts in. PII fields collected via chat (email, phone) are stored alongside the conversation and exportable on request.
