Push Notifications
Get notified instantly when visitors send you chat messages — even when the dashboard tab is closed or your browser is in the background. Push notifications work on desktop and mobile browsers that support the Web Push API.
How It Works
FloatMessage uses the standard Web Push API to deliver notifications directly to your device. When a visitor sends a chat message, the server sends a push notification to every device where you've enabled notifications. No third-party service or app store download required.
Enabling Push Notifications
- Go to Dashboard → Live Chat
- Click the “Enable Notifications” button next to Chat Settings
- When your browser asks for permission, click Allow
- The button will change to “Notifications On” — you're all set
Tip: You can enable notifications on multiple devices (laptop, phone, tablet). Each device gets its own subscription, so you'll receive alerts everywhere.
Disabling Notifications
Click the “Notifications On” button again to unsubscribe. The button will revert to “Enable Notifications”. Your subscription is removed from the server immediately.
Install as a PWA
For the best experience, install FloatMessage as a Progressive Web App (PWA). This gives you a native app-like experience with push notifications that work even when your browser is closed.
Chrome / Edge (Desktop)
- Navigate to
floatmessage.com/dashboard - Click the install icon in the address bar (or the three-dot menu → “Install FloatMessage”)
- Click Install
Chrome (Android)
- Open the dashboard in Chrome
- Tap the three-dot menu → “Add to Home screen”
- Tap Install
Safari (iOS 16.4+)
- Open the dashboard in Safari
- Tap the Share button → “Add to Home Screen”
- Open the app from your home screen, then enable notifications from the chat page
Note: On iOS, push notifications only work when FloatMessage is installed as a PWA (added to home screen). They do not work in the regular Safari browser.
What Triggers a Notification
A push notification is sent whenever a visitor sends a chat message. You will see:
- Title: “New chat message”
- Body: The first 100 characters of the visitor's message
- Click action: Opens the conversation in your chat dashboard
Notifications are not sent for your own replies or for AI auto-replies.
Troubleshooting
Button shows “Notifications Blocked”
You previously denied the notification permission. To fix this:
- Chrome: Click the lock/tune icon in the address bar → Site settings → Notifications → Allow
- Firefox: Click the lock icon → Clear permission for notifications, then reload
- Safari: Settings → Websites → Notifications → Allow for floatmessage.com
Not receiving notifications
- Make sure the button shows “Notifications On” (green border)
- Check that notifications are not muted at the OS level (system settings → notifications)
- Check that Do Not Disturb / Focus mode is off
- Try disabling and re-enabling notifications to refresh the subscription
