How to Contact Your Site Visitors Live
Want to know who’s browsing your website right now and reach out to them directly? With FloatMessage, you can see every live visitor, get notified when they arrive, and contact them in real time — before they even send you a message.
Install FloatMessage on your site
Add a single line of code before the closing </body> tag:
<script src="https://floatmessage.com/embed/floatmessage.js"
data-user="YOUR_USER_ID"></script>Replace YOUR_USER_ID with your User ID from the Dashboard → Setup page. Once installed, every visitor is automatically tracked the moment they land on your site.
See who's on your site right now
Go to Dashboard → Live Chat and click the Visitors tab. You’ll see a live list of everyone currently on your website:
- Green dot — visitor is active right now
- Current page — exactly which page they’re browsing
- Country and city — where they’re connecting from
- Name and email — if they’ve filled in the pre-chat form
Get notified when a visitor is live
Set up notification rules to get a push notification the moment a visitor matches your criteria. Go to Dashboard → Chat Settings → Notifications and add rules like:
- New visitor — get notified every time someone new visits your site
- Visitor is on page — get notified when someone is on a specific page, like
/pricing*or/contact - Visitor from country — get notified when someone from a specific country visits
- Visit count >= N — get notified when a returning visitor comes back for the 3rd, 5th, or 10th time
You’ll need push notifications enabled first. Go to Live Chat and click Enable Notifications in the header.
Contact a visitor directly
When you see a visitor you want to reach out to — or get a notification about one — open the Visitors tab and click on them. Type a message and hit send.
The visitor will see a message preview bubble appear near the chat icon on your site with your message. They can click it to open the full chat and reply. If they don’t respond, the message stays in the conversation for when they return.
Broadcast to all live visitors
Need to reach everyone at once? Click the send icon (paper plane) in the Live Chat sidebar to open the broadcast panel. Type a message and click Broadcast to send it to every visitor currently on your site.
Great for flash announcements like “We’re online and ready to help!” or “Flash sale: 20% off for the next hour.”
Automate with the Chat CTA template
Don’t want to manually watch the visitor list? Create a floating message with the Chat CTA template. It shows a prompt like “Need help?” that automatically opens the chat when clicked — no manual outreach needed.
Combine with triggers (show after 10 seconds, on scroll, or on exit intent) and targeting (specific pages, countries) to reach the right visitors at the right time.
